TrueTrace™ Picture Frame Needlepoint Template Set
Start with the frame. Trace your canvas. Create with confidence.
Plan your needlepoint to fit the frame from the very first stitch. The TrueTrace™ Picture Frame Template Set includes three popular rectangular frame sizes (5x7, 4x6, and 3.5x5) with open true-center crosshairs, built-in dimensions and a lightly textured back for easier tracing. Perfect for outlining a stitching boundary for finishing, centering a design or painting your own needlepoint canvas.
You’ve found the perfect picture frame for your finished needlepoint.
Now make the canvas to fit it!
The TrueTrace™ Picture Frame Needlepoint Template Set includes three rectangular templates based on popular picture-frame sizes (5x7, 4x6, and 3.5x5), giving you an easy way to establish your intended finished design area before you begin stitching or painting.
Simply choose your size, position the template on blank needlepoint canvas, use the open crosshairs to establish true center and trace your rectangular boundary.
Now you know exactly where you’re creating.
Three Popular Picture Frame Sizes
Your set includes:
5 x 7 TrueTrace™ Picture Frame Template
4 x 6 TrueTrace™ Picture Frame Template
3.5 x 5 TrueTrace™ Picture Frame Template
Each template has its dimensions built right into the design, making it easy to identify the size you need without reaching for a ruler.
Create Needlepoint with the Finished Size in Mind
Traditional needlepoint planning often happens in reverse: stitch a canvas first and figure out how to finish it later.
TrueTrace gives you another option.
If you already know you’d like your finished needlepoint displayed in a particular picture-frame size, use the corresponding template to establish your target design area first!
Trace the perimeter onto blank canvas and you’ve created a clear boundary for your project.
That outline can guide you while:
Self-finishing a canvas
Stitching a charted design
Painting an original needlepoint canvas
Transferring artwork or a paint guide
Planning a monogram or name
Centering a motif
Designing a custom gift
Creating needlepoint intended for framing
Needlepoint templates are already commonly used within the industry to size designs for frames and other finishing pieces, making the finishing dimensions part of the design process rather than an afterthought.
True Center, Built Right In
Every TrueTrace™ template includes our signature open true-center crosshair guides.
Position the template over your blank canvas and use the openings to visually align the center guide with the rows and columns of your needlepoint grid.
The result is a clear reference point for the center of the rectangular design area.
That’s particularly useful when painting or planning your finishing stitch-out!
Instead of measuring from four different directions and hoping everything agrees, your boundary and center reference work together.
A Stitching Guide,
TrueTrace isn’t only for needlepoint canvas painters.
If you’re stitching from a chart or creating your own counted design, trace the outer boundary onto blank needlepoint canvas before you start.
Now you have a visual outline showing the area your design needs to fill.
That makes the Picture Frame Set useful whether you need a needlepoint painting stencil, canvas centering guide or simply an outline showing where to stitch.
Made for Painting Your Own Needlepoint Canvas
For painters and DIY stitchers, True Trace helps solve one of the first challenges of working with blank canvas: establishing size and placement.
Before transferring or painting your artwork:
Choose the intended frame size.
Trace the outer boundary.
Locate true center.
Position your artwork.
Begin painting.
Other needlepoint stencil products similarly emphasize outlining canvas to fit a finishing piece and using a center reference for alignment. TrueTrace builds those functions into a reusable template specifically designed around canvas alignment.
The TrueTrace™ Difference
TRUE-CENTER CROSSHAIR WINDOWS
Open crosshair guides help you find the true center of your design area while allowing you to see and align with the needlepoint canvas grid beneath them.
BUILT-IN SIZE MARKINGS
Each template tells you its dimensions right on the tool. Pick it up and know which size you’re holding, no ruler required!
LIGHTLY TEXTURED BACK
A subtle texture on the back helps reduce slipping as you position and trace the template with light pressure.
TRANSLUCENT BODY
The material is translucent, allowing you to slightly see the canvas beneath your template while maintaining a clear view of the template’s boundaries and guides.
REUSABLE DESIGN
Trace one project today and reach for the same template again when you’re ready for the next.
DESIGNED FOR NEEDLEPOINT
TrueTrace isn’t a generic geometric stencil adapted to needlepoint. Its centering guides, dimensions, surface and shapes were designed around the needs of needlepoint stitchers and canvas painters.
How to Use Your TrueTrace™ Picture Frame Templates
Step 1: Choose your intended frame size.
Determine the size you’d like your finished needlepoint to fit.
Step 2: Find your canvas center.
Position the appropriate template on your blank needlepoint canvas.
Step 3: Align the crosshairs.
Use the open center windows to line up with the canvas grid.
Step 4: Trace your rectangle.
Hold the template in place and trace around the outer edge using an appropriate canvas marking tool.
Step 5: Plan your design.
Use the center point and outer boundary to position your chart, artwork, lettering or paint guide.
Step 6: Paint or stitch.
Then finish your completed needlepoint for the frame you’ve been planning for all along.

TrueTrace Picture Frame Templates provide a design/stitching boundary based on the stated dimensions. Actual visible openings can vary among picture frames, mats and manufacturers.
If you’re designing for a specific frame, measure the frame’s actual visible opening and account for any overlap or finishing requirements before painting or stitching your final boundary.
Templates are translucent rather than crystal clear. Slight variations are normal..
Needlepoint canvas, frame, threads, paints, markers and other accessories shown are not included.
